Ambedkar Nagar, UP (The Hawk): Police brutality claims have been generated by a video depicting UP cops abusing and bashing women with lathis.
The women allegedly threw stones at the police and their vehicles, forcing them to use "minimal force," according to the police, who have refuted the claims.
The video, which is currently trending on social media, is from Jalalpur in the Ambedkar Nagar area.
Women who were protesting the recent damage of a statue of B.R. Ambedkar in the neighbourhood were targeted by the police. A dispute over the property where the statue is located was sparked by the protests.
On Sunday, a group of ladies were demonstrating there when the cops showed up to scatter them.
Some of the demonstrators reportedly began throwing stones at the police, according to the police.
In a another video, some women can be seen grabbing at the hair of female police officers.
Ajit Kumar Sinha, a policeman in Ambedkar Nagar, said, "Some protesters also damaged and vandalised a police car during the commotion. When the incident became out of control, the police were forced to use minimal force."
